Chaleun Sekong Energy Company Limited together with the Ministry of Planning and Investment
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 21 March 2021 in Vientiane for the feasibility study on a solar energy hybrid development project.

 

The development project is a cooperation between the government and the company and is located at Nam Kong 2 Hydropower Plant and Nam Kong 3 Hydropower Plant in Phouvong District, Attapeu Province.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Energy and Mines, leading officials from Attapeu Province and the CSE company staff.

The MOU was signed by the Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Ms Khamchan Vongsaenboun, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Thongphat Inthavong, Director of the Attapeu Planning and Investment Department, Mr. Sounakhone Keoviengkham, the Vice Chairman of CSE, Mr. Litsamy Rasavong, and the Deputy Director of the development project, Mr. Phoxay Phommachanh.

The solar hybrid projects at Nam Kong 2 and Nam Kong 3 are a part of CSE’s project portfolio. These projects will further enhance the performance of Nam Kong 2 and its existing hydropower installation, increasing its capacity to 66 MW and the Nam Kong 3 to 54 MW. This initiative will harness the benefits of the area’s natural resources to bring more revenue to Laos.  The power from the 220 MWp solar energy project will connect to both the Nam Kong 2 and 3 Substations before being sold to the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) at the end of 2021.
