The Nam Kong 2 Hydropower Project in Phouvong District, Attapeu Province arranged a
ceremony to release 200,000 fish into the wild on the occasion of the National Day for Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Conservation on 13 July 2020.
Attending the ceremony was the Attapeu Governor Mr Let Xayaphone, involved officials and the staff of the project.
The 200,000 fish were from four different species and included 40,000 grass carp, 80,000 silver barbs, 50,000 tilapias and 30,000 climbing perch. They were released into the dam’s reservoir to increase the local fish population and to improve the sustainability of the livelihoods of the local people. It was also aimed at conserving and rehabilitating biodiversity for future benefit.
